Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to run Mahakal Humsafar Express between Varanasi to Indore. This train will run three days a week. This will facilitate the pilgrims going to see Kashi Vishwanath. This train will be introduced on 20 February. It will be operated by IRCTC under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Model.

Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget of the financial year 2020-21 in the Lok Sabha on Saturday, saying that the Government of India has a plan to connect famous tourist places with Tejas type trains.

The government has made some big announcements for the railways. The government has also made new announcements for new high speed trains as well as Tejas type trains. Apart from this, the Finance Minister has announced the construction of four new railway stations with PPP Model.

Sitharaman said that Solar Power plants will be installed on railway land, Solar Power grid will be built near railway tracks. Trains like Tejas Express will be increased. Tourist places will be connected by trains like Tejas. Also, WiFi facility will be provided at railway stations. She also announced electrification of 27,000 km of track in the budget. The Finance Minister said that 150 private trains will be run.  The budget also announced the introduction of a high-speed train between Mumbai - Ahmedabad.
Along with the approval of the proposal by the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) of the union finance ministry, the path has been cleared for the railways to come up with reform in engaging private operators.

The official on condition of anonymity informed that the major long-distance routes identified for bidding include Mumbai-Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram-Guwahati, New Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Kolkata, Mumbai-Chennai, New Delhi-Kolkata, New Delhi-Bengaluru, Kolkata-Chennai, New Delhi-Chennai, and Chennai-Jodhpur.

The other prominent routes include Mumbai-Nagpur, Nagpur-Pune, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, Mumbai-Varanasi, Mumbai-Pune, Patna-Bengaluru, Pune-Patna, Mumbai-Lucknow, Chennai-Coimbatore, Chennai-Secunderabad, Bhubaneswar-Kolkata and Surat-Varanasi.

Some routes connecting New Delhi to Patna, Gorakhpur, Chhapra, Bhagalpur, Allahabad, Amritsar, Chandigarh and Katra have also been selected by the railway authorities to run private trains.

As per the report, 35 of the 100 railway routes will connect to New Delhi, 12 to Kolkata, 11 to Chennai, 26 to Mumbai, and 8 to Bengaluru, all metropolitan cities.

Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav confirmed the information of the railways identifying routes to run private trains.

The first private train service Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express operated by private operator, IRCTC, a subsidiary of Indian Railways, was inaugurated on October 4, 2019.

The second private train IRCTC Tejas Express inaugurated on January 17, 2020 between Ahmedabad to Mumbai Central.
