Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget today for the financial year 2020-21. In this budget, the government made several big announcements for the railways. The Finance Minister said that, Railways is generating very low revenue from passenger trains. For this, the land of the Railway will be used to prepare solar power. She said that 5500 Railway stations across the country have Wi-Fi facilities. Unmanned railway crossings were closed across the country.
Finance Minister made these announcements for Railways:

Modern railway stations will have airports, bus stations and logistics centers.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway will be completed soon.

The 27,000 km long railway line will be electrified.

The number of Tejas type trains will be increased and introduced on important routes to connect with tourist places.

Bullet Train work between Mumbai-Ahmedabad will be completed soon.

An investment of Rs 1.70 lakh crore will be made in the transport.

Railway Stations will be constructed with PPP model.

Solar Power Grid System will be installed near railway tracks. Solar Power Plants will be installed on the Railway Land.

Water Development Road will be extended, there are plans to extend this road to Assam.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that railway infrastructure need Rs 50 lakh crore budget from 2018-2030. Public-private Partnership (PPP) will be used for rapid development in the railway sector for passenger and freight services. In the budget 2019-20, 300 km Metro Rail Project has been approved. This year, operations on 657 km Metro Rail network will begin. The government is going to start operating 150 private trains for the first time in the country with private participation in railways.
She said that, "with private participation in railways, the government will start operating more private trains in the country. Under the government 100-day action plan, two trains handed over to IRCTC for operations. Through this, efforts will be made to provide more premium facilities to the train passengers. Finance Minister Sitharaman had said that the railways would be encouraged to invest more in the Suburban Rail Network through SPVs. We are not only working towards running high speed trains, but our special attention is also being given for modernization of track and signalling.
Sitharaman said that the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) is currently developing HabibGanj Station in Madhya Pradesh and Gandhi Nagar Station in Gujarat at International Level. This time focus will be on safe rail journey. CCTV cameras will be installed inside stations and trains to protect passengers. Under the Make In India Project, ICF Chennai manufactured Vande Bharat Express, at a cost of less than Rs 100 crore, is included in the Flagship Train of 2018, Indian Railways.
